Story of a blind CEO

If the "world looks at me and says, 'Srikanth, you can do nothing,' I look back at the world and say 'I can do anything'."
When he was born, neighbours in the village suggested that his parents smother him. It was better than the pain they would have to go through their lifetime, some said. He is a "useless" baby without eyes… being born blind is a sin, others added.

Twenty-three years later, Srikanth Bolla is standing tall living by his conviction that if the "world looks at me and says, 'Srikanth, you can do nothing,' I look back at the world and say 'I can do anything'."

'Cow killing is not sanctioned' By Dr Hafeez Pasha

Islam is a modern and flexible religion which always teaches its followers the philosophy of peaceful co-existence, tolerance and harmony. The basic tenets of Islam and fundamental principles have been divided as “Huquq Allah” and “Huquq Al ibad” (God rights and human rights). These two rights form the basic teachings of Islam. God rights relate to namaz, roza, haj and zakat (five times prayer, fasting in the month of ramzan, pilgrimage to Mecca and alms giving to the poor). Human rights include family rights, neighbour rights and nation rights.

An empty promise

IMPHAL, Oct 27 : The Government of India’s initiative to ensure 12 LPG refills in a year to every DBTL consumer remains an empty promise in Manipur.
There is no prohibition for consumers to use additional LPG refills in a year if they need additional refills. But there is no provision for any extra refill other than the subsidized 12 refills of 14.2 Kg capacity guaranteed by the Government of India.
The number of 12 refills in a year was fixed by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) after studying its feasibility.

Faced with an acute shortage of water and energy resources to meet the needs of a burgeoning population, China has turned to exploit the Tibetan rivers and is now in a damming spree in the Brahmaputra river (Yarlung Tsangpo) to fulfil its increasing needs. Hence after constructing the two inter-linking canals, the eastern and the central routes, to transfer water from the water endowed south to the arid northern areas in 2014, it has operationalised  recently the Zangmu project, the largest hydropower facility located in the middle reaches of the river, raising concerns for India.

What is the common between dismissed IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, self-styled activist Teesta Setalvad and the writers who have relinquished Sahitya Akademi Awards or quit the Akademi? They all indulged in a well-orchestrated campaign against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, by spreading canards, which ultimately aims at defaming India.

Let’s cut straight to the award-returnee writers. When I was writing the piece, the award wapsi score reached 33. Five more writers have quit the Sahitya Akademi. Some more will follow suit.

Tarun Vijay on the secular protocol

The anthem of our togetherness
By : Tarun Vijay
Nothing makes a nation liveable than the feeling of togetherness found in its constituents. There is no joy like being together and no pain like being hit by hateful extremists. Absence of togetherness made India partitioned. After centuries of subjugation and a continuous glorious saga of resistance against the foreign invaders, we have a freedom that rests on one factor- how best can we safeguard the fabric of our togetherness, surpassing and defeating challenges and hurdles that make our onward journey difficult. Thats the anthem we cherish, thats the song that binds us together, thats why Sartaj inspires with his ‘Saare Jahan Se Acchha Hindostan Hamara’!!

In Memorium of Swami Dayananda's Mahasamadhi, by Stephen Knapp

Namaste. I have just received news that Swami Dayananda Saraswati Ji of Arsha Vidya Gurukulam has attained Mahasamadhi tonight (according to Bharatiya time) at his Rishikesh Ashram on the banks of mother Ganga. It was his desire to leave his body near Ganga Ji.

Those who came in contact with him would readily agree that he was a teacher par excellence of Vedanta. He established Arsha Vidya Gurukulam in Saylorsburg, PA in early eighties and made it into a gigantic institution to distribute knowledge/Gyan of Vedic traditions in a true Gurukul style.

Thoughts on Sanskrit

Sanskrit: A Classical Scene
 By Sneha Bhura

When Arshia Sattar, noted for her English translations of Valmiki's Ramayana and the Kathasaritsagara, was studying Sanskrit in the US, she remembers watching GV Iyer's Adi Shankaracharya (1983)--India's first Sanskrit feature film--as a 'language exercise'. The movie outing was hardly meant to generate a can't-wait-to- watch kind of excitement . She and her peers spent most of their time exchanging notes on possible translations of what was being said onscreen. Today, after a hiatus of more than a decade, there are three new Sanskrit films lined up for release in the course of the next year.

Misleading Muslims for vote-bank politics must stop

Growing population, changing identity    : An article by RK Sinha

The practice of misleading Muslims for the sake of vote-bank politics must stop. Instead, they must be told how population growth is eating into our national resources.

While there is a declining trend in the population growth rate in the country, birth rate among the Muslims is on a higher side. It appears as if all attempts to check population growth are going in vain. Also, Muslims are indifferent to this and to the harm that population growth has been causing to the country and to them. For an average family, more mouth to feed means more hardship.

Validity of Article 35A challenged

Jammu and Kashmir Study Centre has challenged the constitutional validity of Article 35A which was introduced in 1954 under Article 370.

The argument put forward by the study centre is that thanks to this Article many non-permanent residents of J&K can’t vote in the assembly election and panchayat election in the state. Also thanks to this Article non-residents of J&K are not allowed to buy land or property in J&K or also get a government job.

Should this legal challenge by the Jammu and Kashmir Study Centre is successful, it will have numerous far reaching implications.
