Experience shared by Sewa Volunteer from Kolkata

Here we have Experiences shared by Nabanil Sanyal, Sewa Volunteer from Kolkata

Travelling to Dholakha district nearly 10 days after the second quake struck Nepal and supposedly the epicenter of the successive quakes, was all too tensed to see the level of destruction. Having traveled to Gorkha days before had an idea of what epicenter region can endure. 150 kms from Kathmandu the 13 ton truck took close to 10 hrs to reach Charikot close to the Gaurishankar range of the Himalaya. As we traveled close to the epicenter we could see not even a single house spared. A tourist destination for travelers, we saw hotels now being used as army camps and locals on road searching for a safe place to spend nights.

An interesting conversation

An interesting conversation is reproduced here for our visitors which is in between a Soldier and a software engineer inside satabdi express train. The incident he(soldier) narrated during the capture of Peak 4875 is a true-life incident during the Kargil war.
Vivek Pradhan was not a happy man. Even the plush comfort of the air-conditioned compartment of the Shatabdhi express could not cool his frayed nerves. He was the Project Manager and still not entitled to air travel. It was not the prestige he sought; he had tried to reason with the admin person, it was the savings in time. As PM, he had so many things to do!!

He opened his case and took out the laptop, determined to put the time to some good use.

Revival of Rashtriya Utsavs

- The Antidote for Commercialization of Culture
- Ayush Nadimpalli
From the Vedic period to contemporary history, we find great seers and scholars articulating the fact about how and why this is one nation. However, in his maiden speech on Independence Day 1947, Pt.Nehru said India i.e. Bharat is a Nation in the making. By this he meant that we have not been One nation in the past. This has been the policy since then.

An exclusive article by Jay Bhattacharjee

Both Bengals Turning Islamist                 By : Jay Bhattacharjee

While Bangladesh has a somewhat secular government mercifully, our West Bengal is dangerously pampering the radical elements.

A couple of caveats are in order before one proceeds further in this essay. This writer, as a wide-eyed probashi (expatriate) Bengali, spent his salad days in college in Calcutta in the early and mid-1960s, but never went back to live in that vibrant city or in our Bengal after that. It must also be stressed that a vast majority of expat Bengalis in our generation, my confreres from that era, had a deep cultural and civilisational affinity with the language and history of this green and fertile land and its people. For this, we have to thank our parents, who never allowed us to become deracinated and rudderless cosmopolitans.
